Chess Tournaments and Competitions

All chess tournaments have players of differing levels from beginners to quite experienced school children, and most use the Swiss System to ensure that players are mostly paired against other players on the same or equal level. We have two highly rated championships that are available that we suggest your child or children enter.

All details are shown below and you will be able to book online for these when they become available. Places are limited so it’s best to book early to avoid disappointment and you will need to complete one entry per championship per child. 

The South East England and The United Kingdom and Ireland Chess Championships

Chess Championships are available to book online with Junior Chess Masters

The South East England Girls and Boys Chess Championships have been running since 2017 and the UKI Championships since 2015. The idea was to promote chess and to encourage more girls to play at a competitive level. The competition has grown from being held in a local school to using the larger facilities of Sandown Racecourse in Esher.

The chess competitions are open to all children and it has separate sections for the girls and boys. Trophies are awarded to the overall Champion in each age section plus rosettes for all children scoring 11 or more points, every child also receives a certificate of achievement,

The scoring system is three points for a win, two for a draw and one for a loss.

The competitions are also popular because of their Schools Team event and this section is integrated into the competition so children can enter as an individual or as a school team.

Schools can enter as many children as they like with only the top four scores from each school going towards the school team prize.

There are Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies for the top three girl’s schools and the top three boy’s schools. Medals are also presented to every child in the top three girls and boys school team.

Round 1: 10.00 – 10.40
Round 2: 11.10-11.50
Round 3: 12.15-12.55
Round 4: 1.20-2.00
Round 5: 2.30 -3.10

Prize Giving 3.45pm

Refreshments: Hot and cold food will be available to purchase at the venue.

Parking: Free parking is available at the venue all day.

Bookstall/Chess Merchandise: will be available to purchase at the venue.

Parents: You are responsible for your child throughout the day.

All staff have enhanced CRB security clearance and have attended and completed all the relevant Child Protection and Safeguarding regulations. The competition has full public liability insurance and First Aid, Health and Safety and Infection control measures are in place through out the day.
